ARRIVAL & PICK-UP OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

ARRIVAL
At your first port of entry into Canada (POE), your passport and other documents will be checked and stamped. At that time, please request  a multiple-entry VISA, if possible. This will save you from many worries later on. At the same time, be sure to get some money changed to Canadian dollars. The banks in Charlottetown may be closed at the time of your arrival and you will need some cash for things like taxis and food, especially if you arrive on a weekend.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Please note that it is important you make arrangements about your accommodation BEFORE you get here. If you don't, you may have to spend money on hotels before you are properly accommodated. (Students on exchange are already covered.)

  1. If you would like to stay in residence, make sure that you apply to Residence when you apply to UPEI. Please complete the online form. If you prefer to stay off-campus, check our off-campus housing listings or call (902) 566-0488 for further information.

  2. If you are not attending the orientation for international students, and are living in Residence, DO NOT arrive before the official opening date of Residence. If you do, you may have problems finding a place to stay.

AIRPORT PICK-UPS
The International Student Advisor will either meet you in person, or will arrange to have someone else meet you at the airport if you have requested airport pickup .

But should you arrive late and nobody is there, taxis are available as soon as you come out of the airport. Make sure you have the address of where you’re going written down and with you. Give this to the taxi driver, and he/she will take you to the address. The taxi fare is approximately between $12.00 and $15.00 from the airport to an address in Charlottetown.

On the next work day, be sure to come to the International Student Advisor's office at Student Services (in the W. A. Murphy Student Centre) to confirm your arrival.

We look forward to having you at UPEI. Have a safe trip!
